First, gender identity and sexual orientation are two different things which do not relate to one the other. If you are born female, it doesn't mean that you are obligated to like male. You can like women also. You can be heterosexual, homosexual, bisexual, or pansexual. You can be any sexual orientation you feel comfortable to be. The case is the same for transgender people. Even though you are a transgender woman, that doesn't mean that your sexual orientation is heterosexual, which makes you like men only. That is not true. You can also like women and be homosexual. You can also like both and be bisexual. It is totally up to you. Again, gender identity does not have anything to do with sexual orientation.
Second, transgender women are not drag queens. From Wikipedia, drag queens are people, usually male, who dress in women's clothing and often act with exaggerated femininity and in feminine gender roles for the purpose of entertainment. The reasons are as follow: First, transgender women are women. They are not men. Second, transgender women usually do not wear exaggerated makeup and dresses. Third, transgender women do not act exaggerated femininity and feminine gender roles. Forth, transgender women do not dress and act for the purpose of entertainment. The reason why people think transgender women are drag queens is that they never accept the fact that transgender women are women. But no matter how resistant of them to accept it, that doesn't change the fact that transgender women are real women.
Third, be careful with your words. There are many disrespect words which are specially used on transgender. The common words are transvestite, transgenders, tranny, shemale, ladyboy, shim, etc. These are word that all transgender people do not appreciate and will take offense to. Please do not use them. What's more, try to use the right pronouns. When you refer to a transgender woman, use "she" and "her". When you refer to a transgender man, use "he" and "him". It is okay to accidentally use the wrong pronouns, but please at least try to use the right one.
These are the three things you should know about transgender people. Always keep in mind that all they want is for you to show some respect, even if you do not accept their existence. They have done nothing bad and they deserve your respect at least. If you can’t embrace them, please do not hurt.
